The Harbor Pointe Ocean Challenge attracts Big Island
paddlers every March to Kona's scenic Kekaha Kai State Park. Hosted by Harbor Pointe Financial President
Marc Etherton, an avid ocean sports enthusiast, the event's race course fringes turquoise bays and
surf-swept reefs. Race divisions include one- and two-man outriggers, plus surfski and paddleboard.
The Kona race is a sister event to Etherton's long-time Harbor Pointe Ocean Challenge in California.
Paddlers can choose from two exciting race courses.
A 10-mile long course is along castaway coves and marks its half-way
point at the exclusive thatched hales of Kona Village Resort. A six-mile short course turns around
at pristine Kua Bay. After the races, a gourmet lunch is served followed by an awards ceremony. For
information on the 2005 race please call 808-329-3800.
